I’ve been wanting to make these shorts for a while and finally ordered the Pietra pattern along with the Elodie dress and a few other patterns. This pattern is GREAT but my love for Closet Core patterns apparently has no bounds. The instructions were very straightforward. I’m still working on fitting pants so it’s really nice that these have elastic in the back but a non-elasticated waistband in the front. This helped keep my frustration low because pants-fitting is a journey. Bruh!
My serger recently came back from the shop and then popped up with another problem and honestly, I can’t be bothered anymore. It’s time to purchase a new one and that’s not in the budget right now so I am making due however I can. Linen frays a lot so I used pinking shears and the overlock stitch on my regular sewing machine to finish some edges and used french seams for the rest. Some seams were a bit bulky because this is mid-weight linen but I graded seams, ironed with the clapper and things turned out fine. I cut the shorts in my size pretty much straight out of the pattern which I suspected would be too short for my liking ( they were) but it was my first time using the pattern. l made a reel on instagram detailing my process if you want to check it out ( ig handle is @sewplaysew).
I used bias binding to finish the bottom of the waistband as suggested in the directions. These pants came out so professional looking that several friends asked me to make them pairs. We all know that wasn’t happening but that’s just how good these shorts are!
The pockets are a fantastic style element but also practical and I feel like the linen that I chose to use could be paired with any color or material. I think I will make at least one more pair of shorts from this pattern this summer and also a top to match. If you haven’t gotten this pattern I would highly suggest purchasing it. I’m a huge fan and loved the way these fit and look.
