I don’t remember exactly whose instagram page I saw this on but it was so cute that I purchased the pattern. I’ve had it for at least a year or 2 but my disdain for PDF’s prevented me from picking it up. At the start of the “panini”, I suddenly got the urge to make this pattern. I knew I wanted it to be linen and I had just enough of this light pink linen to make it work. I taped it together and tried to decipher the instructions from the Delphine et Morissette blog (which is in French). I’m not a French speaker so I used google translate for the pattern and blog but doing this left much to be desired. The words and phrases were jumbled and I felt like some instructions were missing. The hardest part was trying to figure out my size and how long I should measure and cut the bias tape and elastic, etc. It was frustrating but in the end I decided to just use my common sense (ha) to approximate measurements. I really like the way it came out! I made a reel on ig to document my frustrating journey with this shirt. I knew it wasn’t in English when I purchased it that but I think I’ve learned my lesson. I’ll stick to directions in my native language at least for now.
This top is basically comprised of sewing a tunnel/tube for the elastic, inserting elastic and making or purchasing bias tape for the straps and underarm finishing. The shirt came out out shorter than I wanted but then some of the colors (sizes were differentiated by different colors) didn’t match up right on the page when I was trying to figure out my size. I can’t say for sure say that’s the pattern drafting but the pattern is hand-drawn so anything is possible.
I especially love the back which is the initial reason I got the pattern. I think I would like to make it again and also make it into a dress but I’d make a few changes. I’d make the front a scoop neck instead of keeping it as designed but with a more shallow scoop than the back. There are a few hacks out there I’m checking out as it would be a perfect breezy summer throw on dress. I love when I come upon indie patterns or designers. Have you checked out this pattern or designer?
